Emmanuel's Gift Emmanuel's Gift

Reviews

This dvd is actually a documentary that details the life of a young man in Ghana who is born with a disability. The subject, Emmanuel, is amazing and will inspire anyone who watches. While slow in some places, it is still excellent. Would be excellent as a teaching tool when the subject is Africa.

This is a powerfully inspiring story of what one person can do to change his world. And he did it with a great physical handicap. I was amazed at what he accomplished and his totally unselfish attitude. For some the video may start slowly as it follows a documentary style, but it soon picks up the pace and you become captivated with the story events. It also helps to know that it is the true story of Emmanuel and he is the main actor- he plays himself- in the video. Makes me want to do more and sacrifice more to help others.

This film was extremely inspirational and informative. The filming was well done. A great film for educational purposes on disability.

I am an Episcopal priest and watched this film in seminary. I have shown it at camp and other events at church. The video is excellent for youth and for training your leaders. It takes away the "I can't" mentality and replaces it with discernment for what one person can do.

Most documentaries and biographies look back on events and maybe recreate some of them. This movie is very special because the camera tags along during the journey of a courageous athlete. The key events are filmed as they occur and are woven into a lovely mural afterward. One man faced his disability head on. He not only overcame his personal limitations; he transcended the conditions presented by his deformed leg. He dedicated his life to serve the higher mission. His deeds have improved the conditions for all of those like him in his homeland of Ghana West Africa. His tenacious actions have changed the perceptions and attitudes of people throughout the country. This is an amazing saga that includes the fields of sports, medicine, charity, politics and education. The story of this man's life has inspired millions from many walks of life in Ghana as well as the USA. The story could inspire you too.

This is a good indoor training DVD. The workout is substantial and the scenery makes the time pass very effectively. This DVD comes the closest to simulating a real road ride of various ones I have tried.

I love this DVD- I have had it for over a year now and have yet to grow tired of it. Highest recommendation.

Blackburn Quadrant and Mars 3.0 Combo Bicycle Light Set Blackburn Quadrant and Mars 3.0 Combo Bicycle Light Set

Reviews

I attached this to my bicycle and loved it. Super bright, easy to put on and batteries last forever.

I bought this as a cheap backup for my bikes light, however they work very good and exceeded my expectations. A great buy at a good price

This product is great. The leds are very bright, it's easy to mount and holds firmly. The only con i have about it is that you can get blinded by the front light since the top part of the lamp is covered with glass and the light from the leds reflects and refracts in such a way that it shines into your own eyes. But it's easy to solve it by sticking something there on top to protect your eyes. Otherwise great product and design.

Great product! I've had it on my bike for over four years and it still works like a charm. Lights up the road really well. Living in an area where people drive like maniacs, this product makes me visible, I havn't gotten run over yet. ;)

I have two sets now. I have a front light and a back light. I got them as a kit and really saved. I have two bicycles and I enjoyed the first one so much I got another one for my electric bicycle. I like the way they blink. I have never seen a front lite that blinks. Most of them don't. The batteries last a long time too.

Blackburn Voyager 3.3 Bicycle Headlight and Mars 1.0 Taillight Combo Pack Blackburn Voyager 3.3 Bicycle Headlight and Mars 1.0 Taillight Combo Pack

Reviews

I like it very bright headlight well made comes with battery not generic Chinese ones mine came with Duracell's only problem so far was when left out in rain headlight will come on by itself i had to take apart and dry out then was OK tail lite functions great even in rain. can't go wrong for this price

I've had these lights for two weeks and have used them maybe 4 times. For a cheap set of bike lights, I am impressed with the quality. The headlight puts out enough light to safely bike up to maybe 15 mph. It's definitely NOT good enough to actually use as a road cycling headlight, but it's better than I was expecting. The headlight has a solid beam mode and a strobe mode. The tail light has a solid beam, strobe, and alternating mode. Each run off of three LEDs. The headlight takes 4 AAA batteries (based on reading the specs--I didn't actually open it to check) and the tail light takes 2 AAA batteries. All batteries are included. I have not had them long enough to estimate the actual battery life. Now for the bad part. The mounting system is terrible! I could tell it was going to be a problem before I even put it on my bike and I was right. It's made entirely of plastic, except for a rubber strip to protect the paint on your bike, and works by sliding the light into place along a small rail platform. To release the light, you push down on a cheap plastic lever that pulls a connected cheap piece of plastic out of a notch on the light. Two problems with this system: (1) the lever will almost certainly snap at some point--as a mechanical engineer, I would bet money on it, and (2) it is difficult to tell when the light is actually secured in the holder. On my second ride, I hit a small bump going 20mph and !surprise! the headlight popped off and landed roughly on the road, breaking a piece of plastic on the inside that holds the front of the light in place and secures the connection between the LEDs and the batteries. Although the light somehow still works, I had to put tape all the way around the headlight to keep the front attached. I apparently didn't snap the light completely into the holder. Being that you will obviously have the light pointed in a downward angle to illuminate the ground in front of you and that the light slides in from the front, the light will slide forward out of the holder as soon as the connection is loose. Even if you were extremely careful and made sure it was thoroughly snapped in, I believe that the plastic in the mount would wear down over time and loosen the connection. If you plan is simply to put the light on and leave it there, this is a great set of lights. If you're going to be putting them on and taking them off frequently, expect to run in to some serious problems with the mounting system. Pros: -Headlight looks and feels like it's good quality -Can actually be used to see at night at slower speeds (as opposed to simply making you more visible to cars) -Multiple modes -Not expensive -Actually comes with batteries Cons: -Horrible mounting system (not an issue if leaving the lights on the bike at all times)

This is a excellent light set for the price. easy to install and operate. Light is very bright and the best part is it comes with batteries installed. How can you beat that - buy it, get it, install it and use it!

See and be seen. Quality, value and a lifetime warranty. You can't beat that! What I love most about these lights is the mounting system. It's quick, easy, and secure. It's also pretty easy to remove/reattach the lights for parking. The tail light is great. Couldn't ask for anything more. The headlight is plenty bright for what need. Naturally it isn't going to act like car headlights, but it really does help. If there are streetlights, you probably won't be able to really see the headlight's path, but if you actually NEED to see at night, it definitely pulls through.

As I already commented on the two star review, this light is rock solid. Dropped it down the concrete stairs ( by accident, off course ) and not a scratch. So I decided to leave a review. Also, the light throws very nice round and long beam, and also illuminates path on both sides of your front wheel.

Blackburn Flea Rear Flasher Bicycle Taillight Blackburn Flea Rear Flasher Bicycle Taillight

Reviews

Great light to chuck on the back of my helmet strap for a higher lightpoint to supplement the mars 3.0 on my seatpost. I do a lot of night riding and even after a 1 1/2 months the battery is still not dead (chase mode, at least 15 hours). It's super bright but i only use it as supplementary to a more comprehensive light system (Cygolite 350 mitycross on front, mars 3.0 on seatpost, cateye on the rear rack point on my road bike. This is typically combined with reflective gear when I'm doing serious riding. I'd much rather not get hit by a car again and a lack of visibility will be no excuse if I do.) I'm also going to add the front flea soon to the front of my helmet and possibly one for the handlebars of my commuter bike). However, I would invest your money in the usb charging version. I haven't had to use the battery charging system yet but it seems like a hassle.

Pros: Very bright, useful in full sun. Very lightweight. Easily straps to seat post Cons: The brightness is very focused so the unit must be mounted in a near vertical position. This means that clipping it on to your clothes won't be very effective. If you don't have an exposed seat post you may not have any mounting options. After 3 weeks and maybe 10 hours of use 2 of the 4 LEDs lost most of their brightness. I received no response to an email to the company, but Amazon sent a replacement right away. Unfortunately the second unit was DOA and would not accept a charge. Amazon wouldn't give me a third try, and I can't blame them. Summary: This is a wonderful light, if it works and if you have a place to mount it.

I haven't been using this as much because you have to recharge it each use. Includes a charging system that drains juice from any standard 1.5v battery, AA's, C-cells.

Training and Racing with a Power Meter Training and Racing with a Power Meter

Reviews

If your goal is performance improvement, then this book is invaluable. A must have for people with a power meter.

I was expecting this book to help me learn about my power meter and it's usage. I read over half of the book before I droped it. This book is for the "BIG RACER" not for someone that just wants to have fun and ride. From my understanding you need to buy webservice from them and ride for a little while and then spend twice as much time after each ride recording the information. What you eat, what you drank. What you ate and drank the night before and the morning of the ride. I guess the book is ok and would be worth having if you use their web service. Really seemed more like an instruction manual that should be given away free if you are a paying customer on their website. All charts in the book are from their website which you have to sign up for.

It is a book with a lot of good information. Also a lot to digest the first time you read the book. You have everything you gain and nothing loses.

This is great book for an introduction to training with a power meter. Discusses specific power meters and the pros/cons of each. Then gives a good start to power and lot's of examples on how to use the power data and what it all means. I will be referring to this book often as I train.

This is a fantastic presentation about training with power with one exception. The Book/Font size does not support the detail in the charts. Even with a magnifying glass I could not discern the detail. This book should be repackaged in a way that supports the veiwing detail in the charts since this comprises of much of the material presented

Reviews

Clear and easy to understand, even for this not-too-mechanical girl. Thanks to Zinn I can now tune my own shifting perfectly and even wrench for others on occasion. If you own the extremely popular Cervelo P3, you'll enjoy seeing your bike in the illustrations.

As an avid runner, I started doing triathlons last year. The first thing that I noticed is although I was able to pick up on how to ride a bike, I did not know much about the maintenance and precision of triathlon bikes. This book helped me understand the differences between road bikes and tri-specific bikes. It also gave me a good idea on how to maintain my bike and prepare it for races. The book also gets into fitting and does a thorough job of identifying and detailing all aspects and parts of a bike. A must have for any triathlete, regardless of skill level.

If you are looking for a no nonsense approach to your bike, this book is for you. Everything you would want to know and great for the novice to teh experienced rider. Excellent!!!

Serious Training for Endurance Athletes 2nd Serious Training for Endurance Athletes 2nd

Reviews

Whilst this book is aimed primarily at the serious endurance athlete, I wish to widen its appeal after having used the book to good effect at the age of 59. Consequently, I would suggest you do not allow yourself to be restricted by the title because you do not have to be a competitive endurance athlete to gain maximum profit from this work. Nowadays, my own memories of winning the regimental mile (and in a very credible time!) are very distant. Nevertheless, I still go running with a pack on my back (old airborne habits die very hard!) as the battle of mind vs middle age spread enters the hardest phase yet. It is a fact that the older one gets, the harder all physical training becomes. This book, however, proved its worth in the first few pages by showing me an easier way to obtain similar results. After all, the book commences with; "Consider your own objectives." Says it all really. There are many times in life when we all believe we know best and never more so than when it comes to physical training, but, consider this; If such training was as simple as just going for a jog, then why are others obtaining university degrees in the subject with some gaining high paid employment - especially in the field of sports injuries. The reality is, we who go for a run (and often do nothing else!) are not gaining maximum benefit from all that hard work. Whilst the focus of the book remains the serious endurance athlete - and from which all such people will gain enormously from a thorough study of the content, I was particularly impressed by the way in which the book is able to benefit those of a lesser standard. There is no point in boring people with a blow-by-blow account of my own physical condition because no two people are alike. Nevertheless, if this work can be of great assistance to me - in my 60th year!, then there is something here for anyone with a wish to improve their own physical abilities and, therefore, their own appearance and, ultimately, health. It is a simple fact that when you are fit and slim you not only look good but also feel good about yourself. Such results, however, are not obtained through liposuction, pills or other easy solutions - they are obtained through hard graft and physical endurance. What is important, therefore, is for each individual to start at their own level, understand that level and go on to gain maximum profit from their own physical input and this book shows the way. Lesson one; Do not be embarrassed! Nobody is laughing just because you are wearing a tracksuit. Lesson two; Buy a copy of this book and make a start. Lesson three; Enjoy! NM

Well, having ordered two books from you people, and only one has shown up (both shipped by October 31 apparently) the other has no tracking possibilities. Yep, I am supposed to just wait in limbo and hope and pray. So seriously, it would be nice if I actually had the second book to review. As of now you get a 0/10 for delivery service. The first order was trackable, and arrived in two weeks. What gives with the second???? By the way I also emailed you about this, and have received no reply. SO, I'll give it two more weeks, then contact Visa...

Rob Sleadmaker and Ray Browning deliver serious knowledge about athletic training. The writers give you 21 spreadsheets for you to track your program (see appendix). If you want to speed you through the book, follow this reading plan: MUST Chapters (for Knowing, Insight) ------------------------------------- 1) [ch 11] Staying Motivated to Train 2) [ch 6] Fueling the Body for Training and Performance 3) [ch 2] Foundations of Systematic Training 4) [ch 7] Recovering Effectively from Training 5) [ch 4, to page 111] Doing SERIOUS Workouts MUST Chapters (to Follow their System) -------------------------------------- 1) [ch 4, from page 111] Doing SERIOUS Workouts 2) [ch 3] Scheduling Your Training OPTIONAL Chapters ----------------- 1) [ch 1] Determining Your Training and Competition Needs 2) [ch 8] Tracking Your Training 3) [ch 9] Managing Your Training Program 4) [ch 10] Optimizing Your Training for Racing

This is the first book a serious athlete should read on endurance and multisport training. It provides a great foundation for everything you will need to know to develop your own effective training program. The writing team of Sleamaker and Browning work well together. Sleamaker gives you the theory and the facts, and Browning puts them into practice.

It has a lot of good ideas on how to create a training schedule. This isn't the main book I use but I do revert to some of the ideas on occasion.

There are those days when the trails just have their way with you. On those days, your shins (not to mention other anatomical features) look and feel very much like fresh ground hamburger. So, after washing the latest pair of blood-stained socks and gently nursing my shins (again) I finally decided to purchase some shin guards. After doing an extensive review of several products, the sixsixone was at the top of my short-list and I'm glad...no...ecstatic that I picked them. The fit is excellent and protection superb! And, even though I never wore shin guards before, they felt like they were supposed to be there the whole time. I highly recommend.

I do mostly cross-country mountain biking in some pretty rocky areas. For that reason I wanted to pick up some pads to save my legs from a few scars. I received these pads as a gift. After receiving them I think they are a lot more than what I need. They are on the bulkier side and seem like they would be restrictive and too warm for summer riding. I am making this assessment having simply tried them on, but not having ridden in them. I will be returning them and looking for something more "streamlined". From a sizing persepctive, I am 6'0" and wear a 32"x32" pant size. I consider my legs to be of average size. I tried on the LARGE size and they were too big around, which kept the hook-and-loop fasteners from lining up properly for a snug fit.
